Well as you may have noticed I have been somewhat inactive over here, and that is simply because I cannot watch season 4 of SPN on TV, because I can't recieve it, so I have been very good and have not come on here so that I physically couldn't see any spoilers! So I am still a S4 virgin and am waiting patiently for the box set, so when season 5 starts... imma die... OTL

Title : FOREVER AND ALWAYS Part 2 (final part).
Rating : PG/U
Spoilers : None, but assume all so far.
Summary : Can Arthur find Merlin in time to save him?
"Something was stroking hair away from his forehead, it felt soft and warm, and made him feel dizzy."
Note/s : This is my first EVER fic, so be nice please! ♥ Beta'd by the wonderful talipuu

Arthur had only taken a few steps towards the edge of the clearing when a sudden gust of wind drew his attention behind him.
"Merlin?" he said cautiously, whilst turning to face backwards.
He was greeted not by his friend, but an apparition of him, whose unstable form moved gently with the breeze. Its soft edges danced in the twilight.
"Merlin?" he said again, louder this time.
Deep sapphire eyes opened, their sleepy gaze staring blankly ahead.
Arthur stepped nearer to the boy, sadness welling up from somewhere deep inside him.
"Merlin!" he cried, and reached out with trembling hands.
The boy shifted his blank gaze towards Arthurs outsretched arms, before fixing them on his face.
Arthur stared into its eyes, his chest heaving, "Why won't you answer me?"
The boy's gaze flickered for an instant, "Arthur..."
Arthur darted forward and tried to catch his shoulders, but as they touched he heard a tinkling sound like broken glass, and the boy's form shattered. The broken pieces glowed as they dissolved into nothing.
"No!" cried Arthur as panic rose within him, fear clouding his mind. He turned around and ran.

Merlin cracked his eyes open and a soft golden glow met his gaze.
He opened his eyes further and looked up at the cold stone ceiling, slowly tracing the cracks that had appeared there.
He swung his legs to the side and sat upright, his head providing a steady stream of pain. He clapped his hands over his ears and massaged his temples.
As he sat staring down, he realised he had been laying on some sort of stone altar. He stopped what he was doing and looked around him with a curious gaze.
Small circlets had been dug out of the walls, and inside them small candles had been placed, their golden flames glowing gently.
On the wall beside him hung a swathe of fabric, its edges tattered and torn. But on the wall behind it, hundreds of magical glyphs had been carved. Merlin sat and examined them, but try as he might to decipher them he could not, for he recognised none.

He touched his hand to his brow, feeling dampness there, and brought it down to examine. His eyes lingered on the blood across his fingertips; its deep red made glossier by the candle light.
A chill passed over him and his gaze fell on the two stone coffins laying side by side, their tops ajar.
Merlin stood suddenly and had to lay a hand back on the altar to steady himself. His legs felt like rubber and would hardly support him, but the pain to his head worsened with every movement, no matter how small.
He stepped towards the crudely carved doorway, golden light flickering somewhere beyond. He winced with every step, and had to place a hand on his head to try and stop the spinning.
As he reached the doorway he leant against the wall and peered through cautiously.

"You're doing well to stand," came a voice, "I'm surprised you have the strength at all." The man chuckled and turned to face Merlin.
The candle light accentuated his harsh features, his chiseled nose and cheek bones protruded from his face, softened only slightly by soft lines surrounding them. His messy hair was dark, and his eyes shone like liquid gold, with a sharpness that didn't match his age.
Merlin continued to stare at him.
"Let me guess," said the man with a heavy sigh, "you're wondering who I am, where you are and how you got here," he turned to face Merlin again, "right?"
Merlin nodded slightly, careful not to bring on another wave of pain.
"Well, I am none of your concern, you do not need to know my name nor my purpose, only that I am here on behalf of someone else," he paused and folded his arms before leaning against a nearby wall.
"This as you may have guessed is a crypt that I have, shall we say, extended to cater for my needs, not those saps next door, and as for how you got here well," he snorted and faced Merlin head on, "you may be strong of will and heart, but your mind is easy to overcome, and even easier to manipulate."
Merlin frowned at him, he didn't have the energy to summon hate,
"That still doesn't explain how I got here."
The other man waved his hands about and wiggled his fingers,
"Magic."
Merlin stared at him wide eyed,
"So you're a sorcerer?"
"Of sorts."
"Then what do you want with me?"
The sorecerer sighed,
"The spell I have been trusted to perform requires great power; power that I do not possess."
He walked forwards then, slow deliberate steps, all the while his piercing eyes fixed on Merlin's,
"Power only found in one born of magic, and only freed by their tragic demise."
Merlin tried to retreat backwards away from the wild eyed man advancing on him, but found only solid rock behind him. He was trapped.
"Déadian!" cried Merlin, flinging his arms forwards.
The sorcerer didn't even blink, and Merlin was struck by an invisible force that knocked the wind out of him. He slid to the floor and watched as the feet infront of him got closer and closer.
"Don't worry," said a distant, malicious voice from somwhere above him, "I'll make it quick, Merlin."

* * *

He ran, his feet barely touching the ground. He danced over leaves and twigs and vaulted over tree stumps. He pushed through underbrush and dived between trees. He never stopped for breath, never tired, never noticed when a twig would snag and rip his clothes. He didn't even flinch when he dove through a bramble, its thorns tearing deep across his face, leaving jagged marks in its wake. He didn't care for the hot blood that dribbled down from them and coated his armour, all he was aware of was his goal. A lonely quest driven by his intense desperation.
I have to find him; I need to find him... need to make sure he's safe.
He needed to find the boy who was everything to him; who represented justice and truth. The one who was alive and vibrant, who brought out the best in him and made him feel alive. The only thing real in his world.
The one whose head rested neatly on his shoulder, and whose hand fitted so perfectly in his, like two pieces of the same puzzle.

MERLIN! He cried. It was a mental shout, so loud and full of hopelessness, it was like the final plea drawn from the lips of someone losing their desperate clutch at life.
He sank to his knees and listened for the reply he knew would never come. He breathed raggedly and blinked hard, squeezing out a hot tear that ran down his cheek, mingling with sweat and blood.

That course blue shirt, crumpled red scarf and roughly tailored jacket. Those deep sapphire eyes and the shock of auburn hair. He'd do anything to see them again, just to be with him, to feel his warmth beside him. To be able to brush leaves out of his hair again.
"Come on Arthur for God's sake!" he said to himself, "what good are you if you can't even..." his voice trailed off, hot tears rolling down his face, but he didn't notice.
He was cold and he was alone, and the only one in the world who could make him right was gone.

He looked towards the heavens, as if for guidance. It took him a minute to notice it at first, but there it was, soft in the dimness of the forest, a globe of light the size of his fist.
He watched as it floated down to him, its soft edges sighing in and out of focus.
The light hovered in front of him, a few inches from his face. He stared as a multitude of lights danced inside it, twisting and turning around eachother.
"I don't... understand-" he started, then memory flashed in his head, "-Merlin?"
The light exploded then and reformed behind him. Arthur spun round and only caught a glimpse of it again before it was off, charging through the forest.
Arthur paused only to wipe the tears from his eyes before setting off after it, gathering all his emotions and chanelling them into speed. He was filled with a new found hope and passion that warmed him and filled him with energy, Hold on Merlin, he thought, I'm on my way.

Cold... he was so cold; and alone. He was laying on something... jagged and hard. Stone. He used to hurt... but no more. He was numb... his heart, his body.
Merlin laughed breathlessly, a dreadful laugh almost like a sob,
"How pathetic I am..."
He rolled his head to the side carelessly.
He was weak, so weak... always drifting in and out of conciousness, but never giving up. He would never let go...
Black spots danced in front of his eyes again, and he let his mind drift. His thoughts were the only thing he had to keep him company in the darkness, the only warmth he had against the cold stone floor beneath him.
His thoughts inevitably turned to Arthur, and he found himself tumbling into darkness once again.

* * *

Arthur paused for a minute to stop his hyperventilating. He needed to live to find Merlin, and he need to breathe to live, no matter how much he wanted just to run.
The light hovered in front of him, always changing, flowing, waiting for Arthur.
"Alright, let's go," he said, and set off once again, one final surge for his love, his soulmate.

His legs burned, a fire that tore at his mind, begging him to stop, but he wouldn't. Arthur could see the light was fading now, it bulged eratically and the consistancy was gone, just a faint glow remained to lead him chasing through the trees. Merlin was dying and Arthur wasn't there.
He reached deep within himself and found speed he didn't know he had. He thought of Merlin and that made him stronger; he thought of all the good times they'd shared, the laughter and the moments when they stood and simply looked at eachother, knowing they were meant to be.
Arthur sped up, crying out in pain as every step drove him to the brink of complete exhaustion; it hurt to breathe, and a fire burned in his lungs. He squinted as his vision began to blur, and as he tried to fix his gaze on the light, it faded again, but this time it didn't stop. It disappeared into nothing and didn't return.
"NO!" cried Arthur, "Not now!"
He continued running for a few yards before he slid to the floor and lay in a heap, sobbing into the mud. He lifted his head and gazed around him with tear drenched eyes, his vision skimming over his surroundings until they settled on a dark shape in front of him.
He sniffed and wiped his eyes with a muddy sleeve, before focusing again on the shape in front of him. It took him a moment to realise what it was, but when he did he leapt to his feet.
"Merlin... MERLIN!" He dove forwards, forgetting all the pain that he felt, and made for it.
The light had led him to the stone entrance of an ancient crypt; it's heavy door broken and scattered in the mud.
Without hesitation Arthur stepped into the darkness, desperatly seeking for signs of the life he hoped he'd find.

Merlin was lying still now, his chest barely rising, breath beginning to evade him. It was such an effort to move now that he chose not to, even breathing was hard. So he simply lay, eyes closed, breathing softly. He didn't know if he was comfortable or not, his body was numb, but not cold anymore. He was filled with warmth, and a light that filled him all the way to his fingertips, and down to the tips of his toes.
He was swimming in a golden glow, but something was nagging at him. A thought; a name that kept evading his grasp.
Golden hair, aquamarine eyes, soft red shirt and that ever present sarcastic tone.
He lay and let the thought roll around his mind, but still he couldn't pin it down.
He watched the golden lights shifting behind his eyelids, and listened to the small noises around him. The steady drip of water coming through the stone, the soft breeze that came from somewhere near his feet, and the gentle sound of far off footsteps rushing towards towards him.

He listened as a voice echoed through the tunnels, getting louder and louder until he could hear it clearly.
"MERLIN!" It cried.
Merlin, he thought absent mindedly, that's me.
Suddenly the footsteps were right beside him, and something was rolling him over.
"MERLIN!" It cried out again, "Merlin please!"
That's all it was saying, MerlinMerlin over and over, incoherently.
Thats when it came to him; the name, the thing that had been scratching away at the edge of his conciousness.
Arthur, he thought.

Dampness splashed onto Merlin's face; Arthur was crying. He wished he wouldn't, he had to stay strong, had to find a way out of the darkness,
Because I can't help you anymore, he thought.
Merlin groaned and cracked an eye open.
It took a while for him to focus but when he did his heart sank. The once proud and future king was a crumpled mess. He was hunched over, eyes shut, head in his hands. His clothes were ripped and a steady stream of blood trickled down from his face; not to mention he was completely caked in mud.
"I had a dream-" croaked Merlin.
"Merlin!" gasped Arthur in reply,
"-I dreamt that I was missing; and you were afraid."
Arthur scooped Merlin into his arms, and suddenly he was holding him and yelling at him and crying all at the same time.
"Don't be afraid," he whispered.
"Don't be such an idiot, Merlin!" He said, almost growling.
"I feel warm."
"No, you don't!"
Something was stroking hair away from his forehead, it felt soft and warm, and made him feel dizzy.
"Promise me something," gasped Merlin.
"Listen to me Merlin, there's no need to do any of this, you're not going to die!" roared Arthur, desperation creeping in.
Merlin knew better. He could barely see now, and Arthur was becoming an indistinct shape in front of him.
"Promise me!" He snapped.
Arthur looked him straight in the eye and found not only fear but regret, and with it grief, for all the years they would never share, for the memories they could never create; for the King Merlin would never see.
Arthur understood.
"Remember me Arthur... miss me," he whispered, "I'll always be with you."
"I love you, Merlin," sobbed Arthur. He had never been so sure of anything in his life.
Merlin blinked and lifted his chin to gaze at Arthur, a ghost of a smile playing on his lips. He couldn't breathe to answer, and he didn't want to try.
With his hands shaking, Arthur ran his fingers over the boys face, tracing the outline of his cheekbones down to his jaw.

Merlin closed his eyes and nested his head on Arthurs shoulder, breathing in his scent. Then, for the last time, he let out a long breath, like a sigh and let himself float into his golden light.
Arthur curled himself around his companion and cried; Merlin was gone and he was destined to walk the world alone.
There was no light anymore, only darkness.

IM NOT DEAD! SEE!! ♥
I wasn't on haitus or anything special like that... teh internets failed me. Well actually, the cable that conects my modem to the wall failed me, and then the thing on the wall failed and omg -shot'd- BUT IT'S ALL FIXED NAO! 8'D
So I can spam you all again~ huahahaha *cough*
...I had a nice christmas; THANKS! New year too~ very quiet and with family, but that's what I prefer haha!
SO DOES ANY OF YOU GAIS HAS NEW YEAR RESOLUTIONS??? I have one! OMG YES ME, I has one *jumps on bandwagon* But I think I'll keep it this year, BECAUSE IM LIKE TSUNA! I HAVE THE DYING WILL!!! *SHANNAROOOOO!* ♥

OH HO HO, should I do a ep 13 picspam OR BETTER YET a Merlin series 1 picspam, cos some moments made me lol hard!

AND OMG I CRIED LIKE ALL THE WAY THROUGH THE LAST EP HARHAR IT WAS SO EMO BUT SO EPIC, but not enough "OMG ARTHURS GONNA DIE, I, AS HIS TRUE LOVE, HAVE TO SAVE HIM!" on Merlins part, and not enough, "OMG MERLIN I NEARLY DIED YOU SAVED ME COS MY TRUE LOVE!" kinda stuff~ 8F

Title : FOREVER AND ALWAYS Part 1.
Rating : PG/U
Spoilers : None, but assume all so far.
Summary : Danger is nothing new to the boys, but could this be an adventure too far for Merlin?
Note/s : This is my first EVER fic, so be nice please! ♥ Beta'd by the wonderful talipuu

"Merlin! Have you got them yet?"
"Just a minute," replied Merlin, small branches snagging his clothes as he worked to reach the herbs evading his grasp.
"You've had ten," breathed Arthur with a heavy sigh.
"Just a bit... further-" the branches around him gave way and merlin found himself face down in the dirt, once again. He threw his hand, laiden with tiny leaves, into the air, "I got them!"
"Good, now lets go," called Arthur whilst picking up his cross bow, his free hand tightening around his sword, "I don't like it here."

Merlin picked himself up and dusted off his clothes before stuffing the handful of leaves into a tiny pouch tied at his waist. He picked up the hares that Arthur had already slain, and tossed them over his shoulder, before trotting to Arthur's side.
"What do you look like?" said Arthur noting the layer of dirt and foliage. He picked a leaf out of his hair and tossed it aside.
"I am a man of the forest now, sire" he said grinning, "I hunt hares and pick herbs and-"
"Wear the fruit of your labour I know, I know" said Arthur, cutting him off, "let's go."
They picked their way through the leaves littering the gound, Merlin tripping on a root every now and then, and made their way slowly back to Camelot.

As they reached the outskirts of the forest, Merlin noticed that the gentle breeze had turned into a fierce wind, and was now howling around them, sending leaves, twigs and forest debris flying into the air.
Arthur's grip on his sword tightened further, "What is this?"
"I think they call it wind sire, or a slight gale-"
"I meant why's it like this?" roared Arthur.
Merlin stared at him blankly.
"Focusing on us you dolt!"

Merlin looked around the forest, for all he could see they were alone except for the wind, increasing in strength even as they stood there. And that's when he saw it, or rather felt it. A darkness seeping out from the depths of the forest, and a fear so blinding it was all he could do to just stand there. One blink however, and the darkness vanished, but the wind and murderous intent remained.
"-Merlin are you even listening to me?" Arthur's voice came from somewhere behind him.
"Run," said Merlin to himself at first, then louder, "run Arthur!"
Arthur could feel it now too. They looked at each other fleetingly, then sprinted as fast as their legs could carry them. The whole time they were running they could feel it bearing down on them, wishing them to trip and to stumble.
However as they sighted the walls of Camelot through the trees, they felt it give one last surge towards them and suddenly retreat, receding back into the depths of the forest. They didn't stop running through, collapsing in a heap only when they had reached one of the walls. They lay there simply breathing, all the time trying to figure out what exactly had just happened.

"What... was that?" said Arthur between breathes.
Merlin stared back into the forest, mouth gaping. He wanted to say something, to comfort the man next to him. The man with eyes of aquamarine and silky hair, so soft it looked like burnished gold; whose eyes right now were wild and questioning, filled with a fire that burned deep inside him. But the only thing in his mind was Magic. It glowed as bright as the sun and this time, filled him with dread. Free magic he thought, if there was such a thing.

Arthur regained his composure and dragged himself to his feet, before searching for the crossbow he had so unceremoniously thrown into the air when he saw the wall.
Merlin stood up and once again dusted off the dirt, grass and new leaves adorning him.
"Best not to er, tell anyone about this," said Arthur gesturing at the two of them.
"No sire," said Merlin mimicking a zip over his mouth.
Arthur nodded and found his crossbow, now also covered in dirt and things, before stalking off back to the gates of Camelot. Back to safety.
Merlin chased after him, his legs a little wobbly after the run.

* * *

Gaius stood and watched as Merlin sat and pushed his food around the plate. He'd been quiet ever since he returned from the forest, only speaking when he handed Gaius some rather squashed herbs, and when he was called for dinner.
"What's eating you boy?" said Gaius, in his ever knowing tones.
Merlin shook his head, "Nothing..." he glanced back and forth between Gaius and his plate and smiled weakly.
Gaius continued to stare intently, and when it was clear that Merlin wasn't going to talk he sighed and turned away.
"Is there such a thing as free magic?" said Merlin finally, pushing away his plate.
"So that's it," said Gaius, closing his book and turning to look at Merlin, "not that I've ever heard of, why?"
"Oh it's nothing-" answered Merlin, glancing away.
"Merlin..." urged Gaius.
"We were attacked today-
"Attacked?" exclaimed Gaius, "by what?"
"Well I don't really know."

Gaius sat down and watched him from across the table, "Go on, what did it look like?"
"Well, it didn't really have a form, er... as such, well-" Merlin shifted in his chair.
"Start from the beginning," said Gaius, "if it helps."
"There had been a bit of a breeze all day, but that's normal, but when we got nearer the outer circle of the forest, it got stronger and stronger..."
"And?"
"And... I think there was some thing in it!"
Gaius stared at him blankly, "Some thing? You got attacked by a thing?"
Merlin stared back, unimpressed. "I don't know what it was, when I looked back it was like darkness itself was oozing out-"
"Oozing?"
"And then it actually started to get darker, and that's when I felt it!"
"Felt what?"
"It!"
"It? Oh Merlin this is ridiculous," replied Gaius, a little exasperated.
"I'm just telling you what I saw, or felt or both!" said Merlin, flailing slightly.

Gaius stood and paced the room, all the while muttering things under his breathe, before finally returning to the table, "go on."
"This thing, because that's what it was... a thing, it chased us out. The wind got stronger, and then came the darkness and then came this feeling or pressure, and it was gaining on us the whole time, no matter how fast we ran it would catch up, but even though we knew that it was all we could do to run!" Merlin stood up and began to pace.
Gaius sat and watched him, "You say you felt it more then saw it?"
"Yes," gasped Merlin, returning to his seat, "it felt like... fear, or-" he searched for the word, "bloodlust!"
"Bloodlust?"
"Yes! That's what it was, and it felt huge, so the only thing I could think was that it must be magic, and if it is magic which I think it is we had to get out of there otherwise we'd d-"
"Did Arthur feel it too?"
"Yes, I think so," said Merlin, calming.

Gaius got up and made for his ladder. He climbed and searched his many books, all the while muttering under his breath again. Merlin returned to his silence and watched his master filtering through old and dusty tomes.

More than an hour later a heavy sigh escaped Gaius, "Nothing."
"Hmm?" said Merlin, his silence disturbed.
"No records, no books, nothing." Gaius climbed down and sat in his chair, drumming his fingers on the table, "the only thing I can think of, from what you've described would be a summoning, but, it doesn't fit."
"What doesn't fit?"
"Well a summoning requires a physical from, but you say this didn't have one," Gaius paused to think, "a Dragon might have been able to do things like that but let me assure you, there are no Dragons, Uther made sure of that."
"The Dragon," Merlin said to himself.
"I think, there is something very powerful hiding in those woods, something that doesn't wish to be discovered-"
Merlin jumped out of his chair and made for the door.
"Where are you going?"
Merlin closed the door on Gaius' protests and hurried out into the darkness.

* * *

Merlin took a torch from its bracket on the wall, and made his way down the stairs into the depths of Camelot.
He reached the end of the cut stone corridor and was in awe, as always, of the incredible space beyond.
He stood on his ledge, the torch having little effect in the vastness of the cavern, and took a breath.
"Where are you?" he called into the darkness.

At first he heard nothing but the sound of his own breathing, but as he waited new sounds came to him. The clink of chains, the falling of loose stones, and over all of that the sound of wings. He watched as the dragon, golden in the flickering torch light, perched itself on a rocky outcrop in front of him.
"And what do I owe the irritation of your company today boy?" belowed the Dragon, his tremendous voice echoing.
"I was attacked today, by a being of the likes of which I have never seen!" cried Merlin, his voice shaking slightly.
"I see," replied the dragon settling back on its haunches, "and you wish to know what it was I believe?"
Merlin shook his head slightly and stared intently at the Dragon.
"What did it look like?"
"It had no physical form," Merlin paused to gather himself, "it was the wind but not. It howled and chased us out of the forest with such a fierce bloodlust, I-"
"You think it was magical, don't you?"
"-I, yes."
"I believe you are correct, though I don't think it was summoned. I think it was a warning-"
"A warning?"
"-yes, from something hiding itself deep within the forest of Camelot."
"What would be hiding in the forest?" pondered Merlin.
"There has been many a thing through the pages of our time who have sought the shelter of our ancient forest, but few who have ventured forth to rid us of these evils have ever returned." With that, the Dragon took off, out into to the dark corners of the cavern.
"Wait!" Shouted Merlin.
Magic is the key young Warlock, but tread carefully, for the path you walk be it good or bad, will end with Arthur...
The voice trailed off in his mind, and he was left alone once again in the darkness, the golden glow of the torch his only comfort.

* * *

"Sorry I'm late-"
"Go out and do it again," said Arthur, as the door to his room was flung open which such force it vibrated on its hinges.
Merlin skidded as he tried to halt himself, before turning around and flinging himself back outside, the sturdy wooden door crashing shut behind him.
Merlin faced the door and knocked twice.
"Enter," came the muffled voice from inside.
Merlin opened the door carefully and stepped inside, closing the door quietly behind him.
"Better, though I see you still haven't grasped the knocking process," said Arthur lazily.
"Sorry sire I'll-"
"And your punctuality is as poor as ever."
Merlin stood stunned, his mouth gaping.
Arthur continued plumping the pillows, "Merlin your mouth is flapping yet I hear no sound."
Merlin closed his mouth and regained his composure, "I see you've gained the ability to dress yourself-" Merlin noted the crumpled clothes and golden hair that were now in complete disarray.
"-but not particularly well."
Arthur fixed his sleepy eyes on Merlin with a look of hatred. Merlin smiled.
"What?" Questioned Arthur.
"Nothing, nothing..." answered Merlin, though he continued smiling.
Arthur stopped what he was doing and fixed all his attention on the grinning Warlock stood in front of him.
Merlin's eyes flashed, "What dooo you look like?" he said, finally.
Memory sparked in Arthurs head, "Oh shut up Merlin!"
Laughter filled the room as Merlin failed to control himself.
Arthur slapped him across the back of his head as he walked past.
"Ow!"
"Help me get ready, we're going hunting," announced Arthur as he walked around the bed.
"Hunting?!"
"Yes Merlin-"
"In the forest?"
"Obviously, Merlin-"
"The forest we were in yesterday?"
"That's the idea," he looked at his companion, "Merlin there is nothing wrong with the forest."
"Oooh really," replied Merlin, eyebrows raised.
"Yes Merlin, really. Yesterday we were just-"
"Yes?"
"-well there was wind and-"
"Yes?"
"-and then that er, well-" Arthur waved his arms around.
"You were gonna say 'thing' weren't you?" He peered at Arthur, "you were! So you admit there was something there!"
"Merlin your being ridiculous, we were alone, in the forest, with the wind, and we got scared ok and thats it. There. Was. Nothing. There." He looked at Merlin as if to convince himself, "Nothing."
"Well, I'm not coming with you," he put up his hands to halt Arthurs protests, "it's too dangerous!"
"Merlin-"
"There's something out there ok and it wants us!"
"-Don't be so absurd!" He looked at Merlin then, and saw genuine fear in his wide sapphire eyes, not for himself though, but for Arthur.
"Merlin..." he placed a hand on his shoulder and squeezed gently, "we must go for others then, for Camelot, and drive out this evil." He spoke so gently then, Merlin wondered if he was speaking only to himself.
Merlin heaved a sigh of defeat and nudged Arthur with his elbow, "Fine."
Arthur nudged him back before wandering off to search for his boots.
"I'll go get your armour-" said Merlin.
"I'm fighting?"
"-Well duh," Merlin gestured towards himself, "I can't."
Arthur looked at him, nodded and sent him on his way.

* * *

The rough cobbled road dissapeared as they reached the outskirsts of Camelot, the stones replaced by dirt tracks and tufts of grass. They stopped and noted how it meandered through the fields and meadows, skirting the edge of the forest. Arthur spurred his horse forward, off of the track and into the shade of the trees, Merlin close behind.

As the trees grew closer together, and the shade turned into an eerie twilight, the horses grew ever more reluctant to move forwards. They dipped their heads and snorted furiously until the boys had no choice but to dismount and carry on by foot.
"This feels wrong," said Merlin, his voice unusually loud in the silence. Arthur snorted in reply and unsheathed his sword.

They walked in silence, picking their way through the leaves and forest debris, careful not to make too much noise.
"Mist," noted Merlin, casting wary glances around him.
"This isn't 'I Spy' Merlin," breathed Arthur, not even sparing him a look.
As they navigated the trees, which were rapidly closing in on them, Merlin watched as the mist swirled around them; twisting and turning, getting thicker all the time.
Engrossed as Merlin was, he failed to notice at first the new voice that had joined that of his thoughts. It whispered to him, enticed him, but he couldn't make out the words.
That's when he realised he had stopped walking, and Arthur, who was somewhere ahead of him, hadn't.

Merlin searched furiously, panic rising in him. His head whipped from side to side,
Why is this forest so damn dense... and whats with this fog!
"Arthur," said Merlin, at first cautiously, then louder, "ARTHUR!"
Immediatly he listened around him for signs of life, but all he heard was the echo and the pounding of his heart which faded, and merged with the sound of his own breathing.
Then suddenly, out from between the trees fell a familiar looking man with a look of panic on his face.
"Merlin!" He gasped, and leaned against a tree, more for support than the cool composure it was supposed to signify.
Merlin looked at him, the startled look replaced with something like joy and sheer relief.
Arthur regained his breath, "Don't just stop walking you dolt, you could get lost and then that thing would come after you-"
"Arthur"
"-and let's face it we both know you can't really use that sword-"
"Arthur," said Merlin, a little impatient.
"-you just swing it around and take people's eyes out-"
"Arthur!"
"-that's why you need me!" He grinned.
Merlin stared blankly at him.
"To protect you from people who would wish to use and abuse you, and we both know only I can do that." Arthur grinned again.
"Have you been drinking sire?"
"Oh shut up Merlin," he snapped and started walking again, "stick close to me and for gods sake don't wander off again."
Merlin heard him mutter more under his breath, something about worrying him, which brought a little smile to his face.

They started walking again, Merlin never more than a step or two behind his master. He listened as they walked, and noted how the strange voice gradually became louder and louder.
Then suddenly it stopped, as abruptly as it had started, and Merlin noticed they had come to a clearing about fifteen feet wide, the dense trees forming a thick circle around them.
"Strange," said Arthur, "I've never noticed this clearing before, and you'd think that with the amount of time I spend in this forest I would have."
But Merlin wasn't listening.
Merlin... he whipped his head to the left and searched the trees. Merlin... this time he twisted to the right, his gaze ravaging the trees in front of him. Merlin... The voice was playing with him, teasing him. Wherever he turned it would sound behind him. He narrowed his eyes and slowly turned, searching every tree circling the clearing for anyone, or anything.
Merlin, Merlin...

"Merlin!" Arthur's voice sounded from beside him, but strangely muted.
Arthur grasped his shoulders but recieved no reaction from his companion. He tightened his grip and turned the boy to face him, he called for him again and looked him straight in the eye. Something like recognition flickered there.
"Merlin!" Arthur cried and shook the boy, snapping him suddenly out of his trance.
Merlin stared dumbly at Arthur.
"Don't you ever go into a trance again," said Arthur, his voice shaking, "ever!"
Merlin grasped Arthur's arm and gave him a squeeze of reassurance, "Hey."
Arthur tore his gaze away and stared at the ground, aware that he may have slightly over reacted, and nudged a stone at his feet.
Merlin smiled fondly at him.
"Where do you think we are anyway?" came a small voice from somewhere near Arthur's chest.
"I'm not sure, I don't remember ever seeing these parts of the forest."
Arthur looked up at him and nodded.
Merlin... The voice returned again, but Merlin ignored it, pouring all of his attention on Arthur.
"We should press on-" said Merlin.
Merlin...
"-the sooner we find this thing, the sooner we can destroy it-"
Merlin! The voice was growing impatient.
"-and return to Camelot."
Arthur nodded again and started foward, leading the way again.
Merlin had only taken a single step when the voice returned with conviction.

Yahera mai... Merlin froze, he recognised a spell when he heard it ...wan kneet awak, bayastranga und stayakra... his heart began to pound ...forbrek thawanay... his head snapped up ...upares arek... he watched as Arthur grew out of reach ...Arthur Pendragon! Merlins eyes widened in horror, "NO!" he cried in desperation, when suddenly everything went black and he tumbled into darkness.

Well, today I got bored. Very bored. So I painted Merlin ~~fail~~
It sucks, I mean seriously! All I done was painted a screen cap, but I ruined it. BUT LOOK ANYWAY COS YOU MIGHT LIKE IET ♥
